The President of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (Comece), Cardinal Reinhard Marx, issued the following statement following the attacks in Brussels:
“The attacks at Brussels Airport and on the Metro in the city have upset me deeply and filled me with sadness. My thoughts and prayers go out at this moment to the dead, the injured and their dear ones. This is Holy Week and it is a time we pray with particularly intensity for victims of violence and for those close to them.
Today’s events have touched me profoundly. My European commitments bring me frequently to Brussels and I feel particularly close to the staff of the COMECE Secretariat, based in Brussels, in this current situation”.
Cardinal Péter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest and President of Ccee, wrote:
“Having heard this morning the news about the attacks carried out at Brussels Airport and on the Belgian city’s underground, in the face of this callous act, I assure the victims of my prayers and express my closeness to their families. At this time of anguish, I call on people not to allow themselves to be overcome by fear and to pray for peace in Europe, in the Middle East and throughout the world”.
Il presidente della Commissione degli episcopati della Comunità Europea (COMECE), cardinale Reinhard Marx, ha rilasciato la seguente dichiarazione a seguito degli attentati di Bruxelles:
“Gli attacchi all’aeroporto di Bruxelles e sulla metropolitana della città mi hanno turbato profondamente e mi hanno riempito di tristezza. I miei pensieri e le mie preghiere vanno in questo triste momento ai morti, ai feriti e ai loro cari. In questa Settimana Santa pregheremo con particolare intensità per le vittime della violenza e per le loro famiglie.
Gli eventi di oggi mi hanno toccato personalmente. I miei impegni europei mi portano spesso a Bruxelles: in questa difficile situazione mi sento particolarmente vicino ai collaboratori del segretariato Comece, che ha sede a Bruxelles”.
Il cardinale Péter Erdő, arcivescovo di Esztergom-Budapest e presidente del Ccee, ha scritto:
“Appreso questa mattina la notizia degli attentati perpetrati nell’aeroporto di Bruxelles e nella metropolitana della città belga, davanti a questo nuovo atto disumano assicuro la mia preghiera per le vittime ed esprimo la mia vicinanza alle loro famiglie. In questo tempo tormentato, invito a non lasciarci sopraffare dalla paura e a pregare per la pace in Europa, in Medio Oriente e in tutto il mondo”.

Déclaration du Cardinal Marx, Président de la Comece, la Commission des Episcopats de la Communauté européenne, au sujet des attentats qui ont eu lieu aujourd’hui à Bruxelles:
“Je suis attristé et choqué par les attentats qui ont eu lieu à l’aéroport international et dans le métro de Bruxelles. Mes pensées et mes sentiments en ces heures sombres vont aux morts, aux blessés et à leurs proches. En cette semaine sainte nous prierons particulièrement pour les victimes de la violence et leurs familles.
Ces évènements me touchent aussi personnellement, étant régulièrement à Bruxelles en raison de mes engagements européens. En cette situation difficile, je suis uni par la pensée avec mes collaborateurs et collaboratrices du secrétariat de la Comece qui est basé à Bruxelles”.

“Ayant appris ce matin la nouvelle des attentats perpétrés à l’aéroport de Bruxelles et dans le métro de la ville belge, face à ce nouvel acte inhumain, j’assure les victimes de mes prières et j’exprime ma solidarité à leurs familles. En ces temps troubles, j’invite à ne pas nous laisser vaincre par la peur et à prier pour la paix en Europe, au Moyen-Orient et dans le monde”.
