    On behalf of the Council of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Europe we want to express our great concern for what is happening now in Iraq. Specifically, we would like to communicate our preoccupation for the persecutions against Christians which are taking place in Northern Iraq. By joining the prayer of the Pope and all those who are suffering, we want to express the feelings of our faithful and the Catholic Church in Europe.

    We ensure our spiritual closeness and we renew our appeal to the International community so that they do something more to stop this tragedy. We cannot do anything more than hope that arms get silent as soon as possible and order comes again to bring hope.

    A nome del Consiglio delle Conferenze Episcopali d’Europa vogliamo esprimere la nostra grande preoccupazione per quanto sta accadendo in Iraq. In modo particolare, desideriamo comunicare la nostra apprensione per le persecuzioni contro i cristiani in atto nel nord del Paese.

    Uniti alla preghiera del Papa e di tutti coloro che stanno soffrendo, intendiamo esprimere il sentimento dei nostri fedeli e della Chiesa Cattolica in Europa. Assicuriamo la nostra vicinanza spirituale e vogliamo ribadire l’appello alla comunità internazionale affinché possa fare ancora di più per fermare questa tragedia. Non possiamo non sperare che si fermino le armi al più presto e che torni l’ordine a portare speranza.

    Arrêtez cette tragédie

    Au nom du Conseil des Conférences Episcopales d’Europe, nous souhaitons exprimer notre grande préoccupation à l’égard de ce qui est en train de se produire en Irak. Nous désirons notamment communiquer notre appréhension pour les persécutions contre les chrétiens qui sévissent actuellement dans le nord du pays.

    Nous nous joignons à la prière du Saint-Père et de tous ceux qui souffrent en ce moment, pour exprimer le sentiment de nos fidèles et de l’Eglise catholique en Europe. Nous désirons assurer notre proximité spirituelle et lancer à nouveau l’appel à la communauté internationale afin qu’elle fasse davantage pour arrêter cette tragédie. Nous ne pouvons pas cesser d’espérer que les armes se taisent au plus vite, afin que l’ordre soit rétabli et que l’espérance revienne.

    Stoppen Sie diese Tragödie

    Im Namen des Rates der Europäischen Bischofskonferenzen von Europa wollen wir unsere grosse Sorge über das, was im Irak geschieht, ausdrücken. Insbesondere möchten wir über unsere Besorgnis bezüglich der Verfolgung der Christen im Norden des Landes aufmerksam machen.

    Vereint im Gebet des Papstes und mit all jenen, die grosses Leid erfahren müssen, möchten wir das Mitgefühl unserer Gläubigen und der Katholischen Kirche von Europa ausdrücken. Wir sichern unsere geistliche Nähe zu und appellieren nochmals an die internationale Gemeinschaft, alles in ihrer Macht stehende zu tun, um diese Tragödie zu stoppen. Wir hoffen innigst, dass die Waffen schnellstmöglichst schweigen und wieder Friede und neue Hoffnung einkehre.
